Local Roots. Local Values. Gerrie Schipske's grandparents came to Long Beach in the late 1940's. Her parents met at the Pike and married at St. Lucy's Church. They held their wedding reception in Silverado Park. Gerrie was born in 1950 at the Long Beach Naval Hospital. She has worked and lived in Long Beach for 29 years. Her three children attended Long Beach public schools and Long Beach City College. Gerrie has a distinguished career of public service at the city, state and congressional levels. She has served for over 15 years on Long Beach City committees, commissions and boards -- including the Board of Health and Human Services, the Joint Powers Authority for the CSU Headquarters, and the Queensway Bay Committee that guided the development of the Aquarium of the Pacific. In 1992, she was elected to the Long Beach City College Board of Trustees. She has won the nomination of her political party three times for state and federal offices. Win a Chance for $25 Gift Certificate


It's Time to Cut the City Council Pork.

No, we aren't making carnitas. We mean the pork the City Council spends on itself while at the same time calling for cuts in city services and higher taxes.

As I walk precincts in the 5th District, I am handing out a "It's Time to Cut the City Council Pork" card that gives 5th District residents a chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate to Baja Sonora Restaurant.

By circling the correct answer below on the postcard and mailing it back to my campaign, you can get a chance to win a $25 Gift Certificate from my favorite 5th District Mexican restaurant: Baja Sonora (on Clark and Spring).

The City Council & Mayor budgeted the following millions on their own staff, travel, benefits, salaries, while cutting city services and calling for higher taxes:
A. $4.5 Million in FY 02
B. $3.89 Million in FY 03
C. $3.9 Million in FY 04
D. $4.3 Million ni FY 05
E. All of the above.
